The awards aim to honour the best restaurants, pubs, hotels, chefs, gyms and destinations in the city. It's remit goes beyond simple food and drink with gongs up for grabs for the best waiter or waitress, best hotel and the top attraction. They aim to showcase the best restaurants in and around Milton Keynes, uncover those fabulous tasting dishes, seek out the most talented chefs and locate the best family and leisure locations.
People can vote for their favourite in each category by visiting the Milton Keynes Food & Leisure Awards website at www.mkfla.co.uk A five-strong judging panel will then make a final decision on the winners.

New Business of the Year - This award is open to companies that have been trading for less than two years (Established October 2010) and which has made a successful entry into the business community.
Training and Development - An organisation that has made a significant investment in the development of their people. Including induction for new employees, on-going development and incentives.
Environmental Award - This award is open to all businesses and organisations, regardless of size or activity, which have shown outstanding concern for the environment and can demonstrate a business commitment to environmental and social responsibility.
Community Investment Award - A proud Bedfordshire based company planning continued growth within the community. A company that can demonstrate successes within the community including financial investment, fundraising activities and steps taken to ensure the employee base reflects the local community (minority groups).
Unsung Employee of the year award - This award is open to individuals of any age and time spent in their role. The winner will stand out in their performance, demonstrate drive and initiative and make a positive contribution to the success of the organisation they represent.
Apprentice Business of the Year - An organisation that offers apprenticeship schemes and can present details of these schemes and their successes including support in the work-place, training courses and full time positions offered after the training period and qualifications achiev
Enterprising Organisation of the Year - Open to profit and non-profit organisations.An organisation or group which embraces an ‘enterprising culture’ and can provide results of successes due to the positive attitude towards ‘enterprise’ including partnerships formed to transform your locality through enterprise, impact on local demographics (eg: young people, SMEs, over 50s)
Customer Service Award - The winner will be able to demonstrate how the business has benefi ted from a commitment to customer care through the tracking of customer satisfaction levels and by how staff are trained and motivated to meet customer needs.
Business of the Year under 50 employees - Open to all companies employing fewer than 50 people. The winner will be able to show a clear understanding of the markets in which it operates and have a structured business plan, evidence of goals set and achieved, a dedication to customer satisfaction and a commitment to staff training and development and other aspects of other award criterias.
Business of the Year over 50 employees - Open to all companies employing more than 50 people. As like for under 50 employees, the winner will be able to show a clear understanding of the markets in which it operates and have a structured business plan, evidence of goals set and achieved, a dedication to customer satisfaction and a commitment to staff training and development and other aspects of other award criterias.
Barclays Choice Award - This extra special recognition award will go to one of the above category winner’s.

OUR sponsored charity race, On Your Marks, is back for 2012!
Last year’s event raised a massive £12,000, meaning extra life-saving equipment could be bought to help the 900 treated by the unit every year.
This year's event will again be organised in association with Boxfit and Luton's Herald and Post newspaper and all profits from the three races will benefit the NICU Appeal which helps premature and sick babies born at the L&D.
If you would like to raise funds for the Hospital and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, please send us an email and we can send you a sponsorship form or details about online sponsorship forms. There will be lots going on for both children and adults at Vauxhall Recreation Centre including sports massage, hot drinks and face painting. Come along and support if you dont fancy running! We asked whether you could sing, dance or perform something amazing to dazzle the people of Bedfordshire, and you responded in your droves. The auditions went online and after the text votes were counted, a dozen acts went before the judges in our special contest held at the Bedford Corn Exchange on September 22, hosted by former EastEnders star Ricky Groves.
It was a tough task for judges Christopher Dawkins of sponsors Singers Bedford, Michelle Brealey of Harpur Studios and Dr Lesley Main of Middlesex University. But the winner was chosen as young Kempston singer Belinda Bare, with runners-up dance troupe A-Pex Next Generation, and Sam Hamer in third. THE London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay will visit Luton in July as part of its journey around the UK – and to celebrate Luton is planning a special weekend-long Cultural Festival.
The Olympic Flame will visit Luton for an evening celebration event which showcases our town’s heritage and culture on Sunday July 8 2012.
The festival gets underway on Friday 6 July with school games in venues across Luton followed by fringe and music events in various locations in the evening. The highlight of the Friday evening will be a spectacular performance at Popes Meadow featuring big name acts including The Wanted, Lawson, Aisling O’Reilly, Bradley Johnson and SW Storm.
Saturday 7 July will see a variety of music and dance stages across the town centre including a huge South Asian Mela celebration in Wardown Park. There will also be lots of family entertainment including circus, food and comedy events. There is another huge music performance at Popes Meadow featuring Olly Murs, Skepta, Sway, Mz Bratt and Lady Leshurr.
Sunday 8 July kicks off with a spectacular carnival parade which will include an eye-catching and breathtaking procession through the town centre, before the weekend’s showcase event - the arrival of the Olympic Torch and evening ceremony. Sunday will also have more family entertainment including street entertainers, circus, music and dance.
The festival concludes on Monday 9 July as Luton says farewell to the Olympic Torch. To view the Olympic torch routes along Luton and Dunstable scroll down the page for maps.

IT’S all to play for – the Gazette has teamed up with the Riverside Shopping Centre to launch a new Community Sports Awards scheme marking Olympic year.The awards were officially launched at an activity day at the Hemel Hempstead centre, and judges are now calling for nominations from sports clubs and organisations operating in the borough.
Whether you’re a major player on the sports scene or just getting started, you could win £1,000 of vital funding, courtesy of the centre, if your ideas win the backing of Gazette readers and Riverside shoppers. Perhaps your club needs a new team kit, your school needs some sports equipment, you know an Olympic hopeful who needs financial help along the way or your ground needs a makeover – whatever your cause, we would like to hear about it.
To register your nomination, all you have to do is email thegazette@jpress.co.uk and give us the information detailed in the top of the page. The deadline for applications to be received is Sunday, April 8. Five finalists will then be selected and put forward to the public to vote for the two winners.
Riverside centre manager David Robinson said: "There are so many fantastic sports organisations and clubs around the area that deserve some extra support and we would like them to come forward and tell us how we can help." The Community Sports Awards is something brand new for us and we are all very excited about how the money that we donate will be able to help local projects and groups."
